Mei Tai:

The Mei Tai (pronounced "may tie") is an Asian-style symmetrical carrier, a type of ABC (Asian Back Carrier). The Mei Tai baby sling is very simple to use, best used for babies who can hold their heads up well to about 3 years of age. It is made with beautiful fabrics, and easy to use. Using this baby sling carrier the child can be carried on the back, front or hip of the parent. Mei Tai baby carriers consist of a rectangular panel with four straps, one at each corner. Two of the straps for the shoulders and two which are tied around the waist.

Your child's weight is supported evenly by both shoulders and your hips, which makes it very suited for long walks, while it is much easier and quicker to put on than a wrap style carrier. It can be used in front, on the hip or back, from birth till toddlerhood.

A new modified Asian Style Mei Tai are available called 'Soft-structured carriers' like the Patapum , Beco, and Ergo. Modifications include padded waist support, pockets and buckles.
